Preppers, freaks, paranoids, crazies, etc. Whatever you wanna call it. According to this article, nine out of 10 Americans expect a world disaster to
occur in the next quarter century, yet 56% say they aren’t prepared,
according to a survey conducted for National Geographic Channel. The
percentage in the survey of 1,040 adults who predicted the following
catastrophes:
Significant hurricane: 58%
Major earthquake: 53%
Terrorist attack: 51%
Financial collapse: 49%
Widespread blackout: 33%
Pandemic: 25%
Nuclear fallout: 13%
Although I don't expect any of these to cause the world to end, I do expect that one or more events will lead to a change in society as we know it.
My personal opinion:
1 Financial Collapse - is the most likely culprit to usher in a new world order where a global currency, global religion, and global government would be introduced. A financial collapse, although not a natural disaster, is nonetheless an event of cataclysmic proportions. It is like an earthquake, a terrorist attack, a blackout, or a pandemic in the sense that no one knows when it will happen. However, just as many use geological evidence to indicate the likelihood of a major earthquake in the San Andreas Fault line, the signs pointing towards a financial breakdown are plenty. Even people without much knowledge in the field of economics are able to discern indicators of a faulty financial system.
2 Power grid interference - Solar flares, asteroids, planets, heavenly bodies, etc. can all have an impact on Earth's magnetic field. A disruption of power grids could wreak havoc on a world completely dependent on electricity. Although way more far-fetched than a financial collapse, the light of the world being taken out would be a historic event, even if temporarily.
P Pandemic - something like the black plague would wipe out millions and would have almost the same impact, if not worse, than a war.
Cyber Warfare- It can cripple a developed nation's infrastructure which can lead to chaos, perhaps even civil war.

The world as we know it is set to make a change. Humankind has acquired more knowledge in the last century alone than all other centuries combined!
WE ARE, IN THE LAST DAYS...
