What if China already has the technology to substitute fossil fuels for clean fuel? Or at least a strategy to exit out of oil dependence? That would be a blow to Russia but two what ifs that would eventually have to materialize in order to maximize the green agenda.

But why did Xi not show up to the COP26?
I think he doesnt like the idea of the US leading the way but i can see him not showing up either for a negative reason. China is the world's leading polluter. He knows he's gonna have to answer for that which would place a heavy financial burden on China.
The thing is, I think China is ready and willing to take on that responsibility, just not directly. Maybe Xi wants to see how the conference goes and what is the exact role of the US along with its exact commitment.
